Access to information is ever at the ready! While this can have many advantages, it can also lead to information overload, along with a plethora of misinformation. When it comes to the subject of resume writing and job search tips and tricks, our many years of hands-on experience and expertise has helped us to not only hone our craft, but also to better educate others on these subjects. So, today, we would like to discuss three tips that can help benefit your job search and put you on the path to success.

More isn’t always better

You may often hear that applying for a job is all about numbers. While there may be some truth to this nugget of advice, it is important to take it with a grain of salt. It might be tempting to apply for every job posting you come across, with the thought that the more jobs you apply for, the more likely you are to land one. However, it is better to focus on quality rather than on quantity. Take your time reviewing job postings, and focus on the ones that appeal to you most.

We suggest you do your research as well. Find the business or organization online, and on social media and have a thorough look at the information available to you. What are their values? What does the work culture look like? Are there employees who have worked there for a long period of time? Doing a little extra leg work before you apply, may help you better decide if the job, and organization will be a good fit for you.

Don’t limit yourself

When reviewing job postings, remember you don’t have to tick every single box within the listing. If you have most of the qualifications and the skills needed, you should consider applying. According to Harvard Business Review, women hesitate if they don’t meet 100% of the job requirements, while men usually apply after meeting approximately 60%.

Be sure not to limit yourself and highlight your skills effectively with your skills-based resume. If you are invited for an interview, this is where you can further expand on your value add, highlight your soft skills, and continue to market yourself as an ideal candidate.

Hire a professional

We get many phone calls from potential and existing clients who are at a loss as to why they aren’t getting asked for an interview. Honestly, in most cases, this comes down to your resume. Whether it is because you haven’t updated your resume in decades, are using an outdated format, the Applicant Tracking System, or are copying and pasting from a template online, your resume is your first impression. Investing in a professional resume writer may be just what you need in order to help get your foot in the door.

Along with skills-based resume writing, we also have expertise in other aspects related to your job search such as: cover letters, job interview support, letters of reference, effective job applications, salary negotiations, and LinkedIn tips.

Searching for a new position or career is a full-time job, and we want to help support you through your journey. If you have questions or would like to discuss any of our services further, please contact our team today.
