Last week, we discussed resume parsing and why it is essential to understand how it works. Today, we want to talk about the importance of being aware of who you are hiring and why it is critical to ensure they are reputable and legitimate resume writing companies.

Resumes with Results has been in business for over 35 years, and we have cultivated many long-lasting relationships with our clients. However, this is not the case for all resume writing companies.

Explore your options

One of the first things you should consider before hiring a company, is to shop around. In fact, this is something we encourage! We want you to explore your options and find the company that best suits your goals and needs. We understand the important of educating yourself as your future depends on it. Making several calls and speaking with a variety of people will help you discover who is professional, and who is not.

Beware of buzz words

We have had many inquiries from clients asking if we can beat an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to ensure their resume will make it through the system.  Any company that claims they can “beat” the ATS or will guarantee a job interview when you hire them, is a major red flag. With a plethora of ATS programs available, it is impossible to successfully fulfill these promises. This type of marketing is not only distracting to the type of product that will be produced but is also unethical.

Examples of some other words to keep an eye out for are “ATS Certified” or “ATS Compliant.” These terms are not an official accreditation, but rather buzz words that companies use to catch your attention. Hence, the next step is key!

Confirm legitimacy

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a non-profit membership organization that rates businesses based on their reliability, quality of service, and performance. Reviews are vetted, credible, and will give you a clear picture of the business you are considering. We also strongly recommend ensuring that the business is licensed with the city.

Never pay in full upfront

With many of our competitors, clients are expected to pay fees upfront and in full, prior to a consultation. The problem here is that it is impossible to know what service is best for a client prior to consulting with them.

Another good reason not to pay upfront is that it is all too easy to be scammed. It is quite rare, but it does happen infrequently that a “resume company” will appear and request payment upfront and that is the last you hear from them. It is important to ensure who you are dealing with is legitimate and licensed.

When you work with our team, our first step is a consultation. This allows us to discover your goals and needs, which will result in a superior product.

When you invest in a professional resume writing company, you are investing in an opportunity. An opportunity to work with a team who understands the industry, and who is committed to providing clients with a superior product.
