Resumes with Results has been in business for over thirty-five years, and we have seen a variety of challenges that our clients face. With that, we have extensive experience in helping those overcome these barriers and find success in specific industries.
Today, we want to talk about how gender plays a role in your job search and how we can help.
We have had the opportunity to work with many clients, with varying degrees of expertise and skills. Since we focus on skills-based resumes, we can concentrate solely on the applicable skills individuals possess and how best we can display those abilities to potential employers.
It is no surprise that certain jobs or industries are often attached with specific stereotypes. For example, nursing may be viewed as a female-oriented job, or auto mechanics may be assumed as a male-dominated profession. Fortunately, many industries are shifting, as gendering jobs is not only outdated, but also incorrect.
In the article, ‘Gendered’ Jobs Are on the Decline, But Stereotypes Remain, Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer for CareerBuilder, stated the following:
“Over the last 10 years, women have been gaining ground in management, law and various STEM-related roles,” Haefner said. “More men are moving into education and training, support roles, and creative fields.”
The idea of a “man’s” or a “woman’s” job continues to blur as more people break into industries that were typically dominated by others.
However, there can still be challenges; and that is where our team can help. We will craft your resume so that it focuses on your skills and highlights you as the ideal candidate, no matter your gender.
We have also worked with clients alongside unique circumstances. For example, men who have what is considered a feminine name. In many instances, they have submitted a resume within a certain industry, and have not been successful in landing an interview.
As gender norms continue to shift, it is important to understand these changes and know how to help clients achieve success. Every person deserves the opportunity to highlight their skills and should be given the same opportunities, no matter their gender, age, and/or race.
Resumes with Results understands how to market the individual, and we are well versed in a variety of concerns that arise when consulting with our clients. If you are experiencing difficulties in a specific area, we are here to help.
